makes what is happening now even more special and should never be taken for granted. I was born on June 13, 1963. I went to my first game in 1972 and sat on the green bank in the west end zone. Here is a brief summary of what our head coaches have done in my lifetime.

Johnny Griffith: 1961-1963. 10 total wins and best season being 1963 at 4-5-1.

Vince Dooley: 1964-1988. 201 total wins, 6 SEC Championships and 1 National Championships in 25 years. I love CVD, and he is a UGA legend, but 3 of the SEC titles and the National Championship came during the 3 years HW34 was there and carrying the rock 30-35 times per game.

Ray Goff: 1989-1995. Averaged 6.6 wins per year and only had two pretty good teams in 1991 and 1992.

Jim Donnan: 1996-2000. Averaged 8 wins per year with best team going 10-2 and ranked #10 and the end of the 1997 season.

Mark Richt: 2001-2015. Elevated UGA to its longest sustained level of excellence in my lifetime until the arrival of CKS. CMR probably had the best team at the end of the year in 2002, 2007, and 2012 ranked 3,2 and 5 respectively. Plus he’s a DGD.

Kirby Smart: 2016-present. Throw out 2016(First year) and CKS has never had a team finish the year ranked lower than 7. Throw out 2016 and 2020(COVID 10 game schedule) and CKS has never had a team win less than 11 games.

What’s my point? CKS has UGA on top of a mountain that I’m not sure UGA ever even knew existed. Even when the wins aren’t pretty, make no mistake, these are the glory days in every way imaginable. Enjoy it and don’t take it for granted.
