The tribulation: Fall 2016, UGA loses to rivals UTk, UF and GT on its way to a 7-5 regular season. Some observers question if UGA made the right choice when hiring Coach Smart.
The redemption: Fall 2017, UGA wins the SEC Championship and the Rose Bowl before losing an overtime heartbreaker to Alabama in the national championship game. In his post-game press conference, Coach Smart declares that UGA “isn’t going anywhere.”
The return: January 2019, former walk-on QB Stetson Bennett IV transfers to UGA on scholarship from Jones County Junior College, Mississippi.
The ascension: Fall 2021, UGA completes an undefeated regular season. Some observers refer to UGA as having a “generational defense.”
The vindication: January 10th, 2022, the University of Georgia wins the College Football Playoff National Championship over nemisis Alabama, led by MVP Stetson Bennett.
The confirmation: Fall 2022, UGA completes a second consecutive undefeated regular season, wins the SEC Championship and is deemed the consensus number 1 team in the country as it awaits the College Football Playoff semi-final game in the Peach Bowl. UGA is 31-1 over its last 32 games.
