NonDawg Buying a true, hand hewn log home

In Reynolds. Anyone have experience maintaining log homes? I know they have to be stained every 4-5 years and bore beetles and carpenter bees are more of a concern, but any other advice? Can those wood bugs generally be taken care of with normal pest control or is the something special that needs to be done?
