Hire Sark, Lanning, Dabo, Kiffen or some othe Saban guy known in the South, (I know the first two were happy where they were) The team would stay pretty much intact. Hire a guy two years removed from Fresno State with no connections in the South, this is what you get. Perception becomes reality.
You may argue that Deboer is a great coach. I would disagree. He was only above average at Fresno State and insanely lucky in close games at Washington. However, no matter how good he is, he cannot succeed to the level Bama wants without players. Talent is the key.
Deboer will underwhelm because of a lack of players. If all the players had stayed, maybe he had a chance. But now he is going to have to play catch-up to UGA, Texas, LSU and Auburn for recruits, relying on many guys with little to no experience in SEC recruiting.
And Deboer has already shown himself to be tone deaf. With Sayin in the fold, why do you have your young Washington QB transfer in? Sayin has to believe he is not going to get a fair chance.
What a bad hire. Deboer may be a good coach, but, whatever he is, he is about to be a lot worse. 3rd in the West sounds about right next year.
