There is no way Deboer is ready for that job. I can’t believe they actually hired him. Washington had a great season, but they were living on the edge the entire time. Look at how many close games they played this year, and if any of them go the other way Washington doesn’t make the playoff and Deboer isn’t a candidate.
I could go on and on about how he doesn’t have relationships with the high school coaches he needs to recruit at the level Bama wants, how the workload is gonna be basically impossible for him, and how the transfer portal is gonna be ruthless.
He might have a nice first couple seasons like Larry Coker or Mark Helfrich because of the juggernaut roster Saban built and the infrastructure and reputation Bama still has, but I promise this will not work out long term. Feel free to bump this in 2028 or 2029 when Bama is looking for a new coach but this time with a much worse roster, with Nick Saban’s shadow still looming as large as ever.
