If the SEC goes to 9 games, something has to give.

I’m a big proponent of the SEC going to 9 games. But in thinking about it plus thinking about future schedules, something will have to give.

Let’s say we keep Jacksonville and go to a 4 home, 4 away, and 1 neutral model. That leaves 3 OOC games. In order to have 6 home games, 2 of them would have to be at home.

We play Tech at home in even years, so that’s easy. But what about odd years?

Right now we have the following OOC games in odd years starting in 2025:

2025
@UCLA
@Tech
Austin Peay
Charlotte
[note: mathematically one of these HAS to go if we go to 9 games]

2027
@FSU
@Tech
Louisville

2029
Texas (obviously not happening)
@Tech
@Clemson

2031
@ Tech
@ OSU
Western Carolina

Something has to give. Either (a) we have to move the Jacksonville game to home and home and have our home year be odd years (which technically it is not currently), (b) we have to drop some of these OOC matchups we have been looking forward to or (c) we have to drop Tech (we know this one isn’t happening)

My thought? Don’t get your hopes up for that trip to UCLA or OSU or Clemson or FSU because we aren’t going to have just 5 home games on our schedule.
