As the Gators scored that garbage time TD late in the game yesterday to get to 20 points (🤬) it made me think of how young our second and third string is this year and how them giving up points late in games has somewhat slanted our view of the defense and points allowed. So I thought I would look back to see just how many points has our actual first string defense has given up and here is what I came up with (please correct me if I’m wrong on any of these):

UT-Martin: 0
Ball State: 0
SCar: 14
UAB: 14
Auburn: 20
Kentucky: 13
Vandy: 14
Florida: 13
Total: 88 points (11 PPG)

Also interesting is that 21 of those points came on the first drive of the game (SCar, Vandy, Florida). So while I do think we have a few more potential weak spots on defense than the last two years, I think this starting 11 is still as good as any in the country. This weekend should be a really good test but I like how we are trending with guys like TID, MJJ, Mykel and Jalon Walker all starting to add a different dimension to our front 7 which makes the whole defense so much better.
