So good to get a W! As White says, “much rather learn from a win than a loss.” But there is a lot to learn from.

I just don’t think we took the opponent seriously. For starters, we got out rebounded and we usually rebound well. We were the bigger team. Secondly, we stopped fighting as hard on the defensive end. We were hitting threes and believing that we were elite and stopped fighting on every possession which we are no where good enough to do. Hopefully those last ten minutes of the game serve as a wake up call.

Weird stats:
We hit 13 for 25 from 3 (52%)
We hit 13 for 22 from the foul line (59%)
But really everybody shot free throws well except Moncrieffe. His 0 for 6 was killer. In his first two seasons of college ball, he never shot better than 55%, so we could be in for a long ride with that.

Florida Southwestern State College:
That’s where the two dudes (Roberts and Oquendo) came from that started us out on a 10-0 run to start the game. Just beautiful basketball from both. Unfortunately, it probably gave us a false sense of confidence that we were the way better team, but Oquendo and Roberts balled out with 17 a piece. They had the ball a lot and we only had 9 turnovers for the game. Great job.

McBride and Jabri -
Absolutely lit it up from deep. 8 made threes between them. They were the extra boost we needed. If they can just keep teams honest and believe they are a threat, it will open things up for Roberts, Oquendo, Bridges, and Hill. Roberts and Hill got two wide open layups in the 1st half just by Rider being worried about Jabri on the 3.

Biggest Concern:
Interior D. Anselem’s minutes have been making me antsy. He doesn’t give us much at all on offense and he seems to struggle on 1 on 1 defense down low. He is good at helpside D and blocking a shot in that situation, but he doesn’t appear to be better than any of our other defenders at stopping his man down low. I think Moncrieffe probably needs to get those minutes at the five spot or Bridges. With that said, Anselem had two huge rebounds on one offensive possession alone that led to our only field goal in the last 11 or 12 of our shots (he kicked it out to Jabri for that big 3). So thankful for him there and he seems like a great teammate.

We are 10-3. We got away from who we are with our lack of fight at times tonight, but let’s learn from this W. We have some momentum. We have some guys who can get buckets. Let’s get our fight back and punch Auburn in the mouth next Wednesday!
