Everything is conspiring against us taking a normal week to 10 day vacation this summer. Just lots of stuff getting in the way of that happening. I would like to do 1-2 short getaways. I'm looking for anything from a day trip to maybe 2-3 days. I've got fishing on my mind. I'm thinking fresh water more than anything. It would be a trip for 4 fishermen (me, wife, teen daughters).
Ideally, I'd like to catch something we haven't caught before. Here's what we HAVE caught as a family (I've caught lots of saltwater stuff, but not with the family):
Largemouth
bream
Crappie
Spotted Bass (Lanier)
Stripers (Lanier)
Snook
Speckled Trout
I know there are smallmouth and walleye in North Georgia but I don't know whether anyone seriously guides for them or whether they are present in strong enough numbers to really target them, but that would be appealing either in GA or nearby (SC?, TN?). We tried smallmouth on our Niagara trip a few years ago, but it was a fiasco due to weather.
N. Georgia trout has some appeal to me, but none of us know how to fly fish.
Other ideas or recs? Somewhere cooler sounds better to me than somewhere hot like the beach.
Thanks for your input, ideas and reccomendations.
