A UGA football tradition and experience ending in 1980, the Track Fans, Track People, or the “Trestle Crowd,” as Coach Magill coined them, watched the Bulldogs free of charge from the railroad tracks just outside of Sanford Stadium for generations. From apparently 1973, this is one of my favorite photos of the Track Fans:

I didn’t start going to Georgia games until the season after the Track Fans in 1981, so I have no recollection of them—only heard some stories. I read once that these crowds would generally total around 2,000 people with an estimated high of around 4,000 for the Alabama game in 1976.

Anyone remember these fans? Anyone out there actually watch a game from the tracks?
