We let him play his game. I'm not an Urban Meyer fan, but you can't deny he was a great offensive mind and head coach. One of the things he understood about Alex Smith at Utah and later with Tim Tebow, was that you have to use their running ability and you can't have them sliding. Tebow never had an NFL type of game, his arm wasn't perfect, his mechanics weren't perfect, and his accuracy wasn't perfect. But his ability to run through and around defenses, always moving the chains, was a frustrating thing for an opposing team to watch. The defense could do everything right, but Tebow on 3rd and 9 could still scamper for a first down. Then once the defense moved up closer to the LOS in an attempt to stop him, he would hit something downfield. Meyer didn't try to protect Tebow, in fact he played him like a fullback. Meaning Meyer was gambling that Tebow would not get seriously hurt and would make it the entire season, it was an all or nothing approach. That gamble worked and they won 2 national championships with that philosophy. I hope that if Stockton wins the job next year that we don't play scared, and let Stockton play his own style of football.
