It was all so inevitable, though none of us expected them to go down as dramatically as the unsinkable Titanic.
As fans of Georgia we know how hard it is to get through a really big season. You don't get halfway through, maybe have one big win, and start beating your chest. It just ain't that easy. In 2005, we never lost until Jacksonville, then lost again to Auburn. Still won the league, but it could have been bigger. We could name a lot of seasons in which things tanked after we were highly rated. What about 2017 and Auburn? '19 and South Carolina? Many others.
Yet these Vol fans never considered anything like that could happen. They thought, past bad, present unbeatable. Simple as that. They were all over the Internet proclaiming their greatness, even with an awful, awful defense. They lost to us, went into shock for a couple of days, and then convinced themselves that it was a close game, and on a neutral field things would be different. They'd do what we did to Auburn in '12.
Some of them seemed to believe that with two matchups in one season, the initial loser always wins the second one (a myth, by the way.) They refused to realize how fluky their Bama victory was. Just totally drunk on the Kool-Aid.
UGA was the iceberg. South Carolina was the dramatic break-up of the hull and the plunge to the depths of the ocean. Now, there's a lot of orange-clad folks floating in the freezing water, wondering wtf.
Somehow they've been around SEC football all these decades and didn't understand how things work. No ship is unsinkable.
