I spoke to Irwin County running back Shane Marshall tonight ahead of his game tomorrow night at Cook. His official visit is set for Oct. 5. when the Bulldogs host Auburn. Marshall speaks with running backs coach Josh Crawford weekly. The two are building a strong relationship. Crawford's ties with South Georgia are a selling point for Marshall, who takes pride in hailing from that part of the Peach State. He didn't grow up as a Georgia fan but spewed off several Georgia running back names, from Herschel Walker to Sony Michel. He considered himself a "student of the game" and loves watching film of old Bulldog running backs. With Lee County running back Ousmane Kromah likely committing to Auburn, I'm told by a source that the pressure has been turned up on Marshall, who has no problem being a second option. Marshall just wants to come in, work, and make an early impact. He attended the Georgia-Clemson game and noticed how freshman running back Nate Frazier made an early impact. Marshall believes he has the work ethic and skills to follow in Frazier's footsteps. Either way, he is still committed to Minnesota, but things could change quickly for the native of Ocilla, Georgia if his official visit goes well. Marshall just wants to feel the vibe in Athens. He's looking for a "family environment" and feels Georgia might be "home" for him in the near future. This one might get interesting really soon.
