May UGA Sports: Georgia leads wire-to-wire, beats Texas in Austin
"We were locked in, and after a big win like (Florida), for a team that's searching, especially for a road win in the SEC, there was no difference in our approach leading into this one with shoot-around, with the practices," Georgia head coach Mike White said after the game. "We were good. I mean, that's about as well as we've played."
"I think a lot of it is just the organic maturation of a true sophomore, midway through that sophomore year, where his team's asking him to be a little bit more aggressive, especially with our turnover problems, him gaining confidence, having a little bit more success over time, and just building off of it," White said. "He's just taking a few more shots a game, and he's shooting it at high clip right now. We hope that continues, but he's going to continue to see high-level defenses."
"It was probably more offense for us than defense," White said. "Getting some extra possessions in the offensive glass. Again, just valuing the ball at a high rate. A couple of late-clock fouls that we drew, converted at the foul line. We've got to convert and got to continue to convert at a higher level there. And a couple of late-clock shots, namely a couple by Silas, kept them at arm's length."

Weiszer ABH: With March here, Georgia basketball is 'figuring itself out' in crucial stretch of season
Coach Mike White said there was “fear” as a staff that “you go into the next one overly comfortable and feeling too good about yourself. That’s far from who we were. …We were locked in. After a big win like that for a team that’s searching especially for a road win in the SEC, there was no difference in our approach leading into this one. The shootaround, with practices. We were good. That’s about as well as we’ve played.”
Blue Cain had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals but probably more importantly played a major role in limiting SEC leading scorer and projected NBA lottery pick Tre Johnson to 12 points on only 3 of 7 shooting after he scored 39 in an overtime loss Wednesday at Arkansas.
“He’s a great player so he was definitely the focal point of the scout,” Cain said. “Credit our bigs. Whenever I was blasting him off screens, our bigs were always at the level that Coach talked about. We were able to make it difficult for him tonight.”
With RJ Godfrey (5 points) and Asa Newell (10 points, 5 rebounds) battling foul trouble, the Bulldogs leaned on Dakota Leffew (11 points, 3 rebounds), Tyrin Lawrence (8 points, 6 assists), Somto Cyril (6 points, 4 rebounds) off the bench.
“Probably our best bench game in a while,” White said.
White said that’s because Lawrence is now healthy and Leffew was in a good rhythm and valuing the basketball and defending well. He was thrilled Georgia only had 10 turnovers.
The team was to remain in Austin overnight and fly Sunday directly to Columbia, S.C., since the University of Georgia is on spring break this coming week.
