UGA Sports: Behind the scenes: Silas Demary Jr. on picking Georgia

www.uscbasketball.com: Silas Demary guards DJ Wagner on Friday night in Frankfort We had the good fortune to be able to attend a high school basketball game in Frankfort, Kentucky

“Demary guards DJ Wagner on Friday night in FrankfortWe had the good fortune to be able to attend a high school basketball game in Frankfort, Kentucky on Friday night featuring North Carolina's Combine Academy against New Jersey's Camden High.
The matchup featured a ton of elite-level prep talent. Camden is led by University of Kentucky signees DJ Wagner, a point guard who is considered to be on par with USC signee Isaiah Collier, and 7-foot center Aaron Bradshaw, who is simply a monster down low.

But we came to see USC's class of 2023 point guard Silas Demary, Jr., whose team also features class of 2024 stars Rakease Passmore and Trentyn Flowers.

This was perhaps not the best game to evaluate Demary, as Camden unleashed an epic onslaught from the jump, sinking a barrage of 3-pointers that put the game quickly out of reach. And Combine had no answer for Bradshaw, who flashed an impressive skill set and scored at will. I don't have the stat sheet, but he probably scored 30 points or so while missing maybe a handful of shots. So the game quickly got away from Combine.
Nonetheless, Demary showed why he's considered one of the top 50 players in the country and why USC can't wait to have him on its roster.

Demary is a plus ball handler who is able to navigate through traffic and down the court at high speed. His main offensive skill is to get to the basket and either sink the bucket or draw a foul. He as able to do that at will against an immensely talented Camden squad. He went to the free throw line a lot on Friday (he wasn't that sharp from the line for the night, hitting maybe 60%, but his stroke looked good). He has an impressive ability to draw contact from bigger bodies down low and still maintain body control. In the half court, he possesses a sneaky sense for those split seconds when the defense gets on its heels and he takes advantage of that brief window to knife his way to the rim. He is primarily a right-hand dominant player but he did go baseline to his left at least once for a nice kick out that ended in a 3-point basket for Combine. He was inconsistent from outside against Camden, hitting maybe 1 out of 4 from long range, and this is an area he will need to improve upon over the summer. But, to be fair, tonight was a tall order for Combine and no one on the team was shooting well from distance.
Defensively, Demary shows great promise as an on-ball defender. He had no problem matching up against the fast-twitch Wagner and he's got quick and active hands. Demary is listed at 6-5 (I'd say he's closer to 6-4), but he's got a solid build and strength to complement his quickness and size. He plays with a high motor and rarely takes plays off. Because of this, he's always in the center of the action, grabbing loose balls or battling down low for rebounds.

Once Demary becomes more consistent from the outside, he'll be a complete player at the college level. It looks to me like he has a good stroke, though maybe his ball could use a bit more arc. But USC coach Andy Enfield has a great reputation with shooters, and his past Trojan squads featured plenty of players like Jordan McLaughlin and Elijah Stewart whose outside shooting flipped from weakness to strength during their college years.

He finished with 17 points on the night. I think USC fans are going to enjoy watching Demary, Jr. The Trojans are very lucky to have him.”

UGA Sports: Behind the Scenes: Jalen DeLoach on why he picked UGA

https://uga.rivals.com/news/behind-the-scenes-jalen-deloach-on-why-he-picked-uga

The Athletic:

44. Jalen DeLoach | 6-9 forward | Two years of eligibility | Transferred from VCU to Georgia

The Scout: Part of the mass exodus of VCU players following Mike Rhoades’ decision to go to Penn State, DeLoach will be a very popular portal entry if he doesn’t just decide to head up north to State College. A third-team All-Atlantic-10 player this year, DeLoach blossomed, particularly over the second half of the season, into the kind of versatile big man that schools around the country crave. It starts on defense for DeLoach, where he was a lengthy, versatile defender that dealt with both bigs on the interior as we all as bigger wings and forwards. He’s mobile and extremely active, showcasing a real competitiveness every time he’s on the floor. He gets into passing lanes to try to get steals, then will swat shots on the interior. Then on offense, he’s going to try to dunk everything he gets on the interior and finish through contact. He crashes the glass hard, creates second-chance opportunities, and just continually forces his man to keep track of where he is. A late bloomer that shot up from 6-foot tall when he was a freshman in high school, DeLoach is still growing into his frame a bit. As he gets stronger and fills out, it’s very easy to imagine him continuing to grow into being a defensive monster at even higher levels. Penn State could obviously use someone like this, as the team played very small last year.

The Fit: Much like Jayden Nunn, DeLoach decided not to follow Mike Rhoades to Penn State and instead will head south to his home state of Georgia and play for the Bulldogs. An athletic, bouncy, mobile forward, DeLoach’s athleticism will extremely well in the SEC, Beyond that, Mike White and the rest of the staff pretty desperately needed frontcourt depth. Braelen Bridges has graduated, and Frank Anselem is really the only frontcourt returnee. DeLoach will allow the Bulldogs to be more athletic and versatile in the frontcourt, and they should be a bit better defensively after finishing outside of the top-100 nationally and outside of the top-10 in the SEC.

Thomas ended last year with an impressive 15 double-figure scoring games and 13 double-doubles. She turned in several notable performances, including a career-high 24 rebounds against Seton Hall, which marked the most in a single game in UCF history.

The Atlanta native, who prepped at Forest Park High School, was a two-time Atlanta Journal-Constitution AAAAAA all-state honoree…”
