This may well be what was needed in order to shock Kirby into being forced to make wholesale coaching changes and portal decisions. With player regression everywhere minus ST and an unsettling trend of apathy from players due to their fattened bank accounts, Kirby needs to reevaluate his approach. What do we do?
1. Replace Bobo, OL, and Secondary coaches.
2. Hire an experienced DC to share the position with Schu like Muschamp did. He is a liability left alone.
3. Aggressively pursue a dual threat QB, an alpha WR, and a dominant edge. Yes, it will cost millions, but to win against the big boys it’s worth it. NIL is here to stay and if you don’t utilize it well then you are done in the SEC. The moves we typically make are safe picks with high floors, but lower ceilings. Kiffen is ultra aggressive here and it’s paid off finally as he marked his team’s weak spots and addressed them with high ceiling players. We will have to overpay at WR, but with a new OC and shared vision of opening up the offense with an elite dual QB (did you see Milroe just run another one in?), I believe we can get one.
4. The final one is most challenging as we have a sense of entitlement and apathy on the field. The intensity of Kirby led squads hasn’t been there minus Texas. You see Beck smiling on the sidelines as a pseudo leader of our team. That is seen down through others as I refuse to believe they aren’t talented. But how do you get that back? I don’t know. However, as a HC, I would absolutely refuse to allow my players to drive a Lamborghini as if you have already reached the mountaintop. Give me the kid from Vandy who didn’t hold a major scholarship offer, but feels privileged to be able to go to work each day and lead by example on the field. Give me that dedication and passion for the game.
