person. In January, I was passing (rapidly) through the Charlotte NC area. I was on bidness in Raleigh when I got the word my mother had suffered a stroke. I didn't have detail and wasn't getting updates on her condition.

Got a ticket for doing 85 in a 60. Within a week, I received no fewer than 12 letters from Charlotte area lawyers looking for my business. I was all set to simply pay fine and move on but someone on chat told me it was worth my time and money to contest via a lawyer.

I contacted a lawyer and today I found out this lawyer negotiated a....wait...want to get this right...." I was able to negotiate for a reduced plea of Improper Equipment, which is a non-moving infraction and will not result in points on your license or insurance."

Still awaiting fine detail but dang..... not bad, eh?

Charlotte area apparently works funny but when in Rome.....

That was me 30A, glad you went that direction and took advantage of the option to avoid a speeding ticket. I have done it twice, two different counties, and had the same Improper Equipment charge. You had looked for me online later that day and I responded to answer your question but we missed each other. This is what I think should happen to first time speeders in an area that act responsibly toward the officer, and wasn't driving in a dangerous manner: crossing lanes, speeding in a school zone, running stop signs, etc. No need to get your insurance rates hit for speeding in dry conditions on an open road, imo. The fines and legal fees are enough of a lesson for drivers, and who have a clean record.

I owe you several drinks but one drink short of getting pulled over :)

thanks....will look for an opportunity to pay this debt!

I read a bit about the NC process. They now record these improper equipment instances....point being...they'll now know if you abuse the flexibility. I plan...not to.

And about the fine, even tho they cut you a break on the points,

they will still want their money. I had a similar experience up the road in Greensboro. I was relieved to not get any pts on the record, but the fine stayed the exact same. Was also hounded by lawyers like you but didn't use one. Took 1/2 day off and appeared in court. May be wrong, but I'm convinced this racket is the way they do bidness for tickets across the entire state of NC.

Thanks....I won't spend my drinkin' money until I know the fine*

No drinks owed, Dawgs help other Dawgs. I am still glad I paid the fine and lawyer fees, total money wouldn't have been that much different, and I avoided the points/insurance hit. By the time I would have spent time and money to return to NC for a day or two, on their schedule, I came out ahead. Everyone has to make their own decision, I couldn't go back for less than the $150 I paid the attorney to handle. With my luck. I would have gotten another ticket on the way in, or out, of the state! We will get our revenge when the Heels come rolling into Atlanta in 2016's opener.
