Early on Christmas Eve morning - slightly before daylight - my wife was driving near Cartersville to take care of an errand. She noticed a dog - that didn’t look well - walking down the road. She slowed and eventually pulled over. The dog came up to the car as if needing help. About the same time another car stopped, which coincidentally was driven by a vet tech from where we take our dogs. The vet tech was heading into work. It was apparent that the dog was under nourished and had a few injuries.

It was determined that the vet tech would take the dog with her for care at the veterinary clinic. Being Christmas Eve - she acknowledged that it was going to be difficult to find someone to foster the dog over the holidays. My wife immediately offered to take in the dog after an examination and care.

The dog was given a bath, shots, and medication. He has some injuries, but nothing substantial and nothing that can’t be overcome. A few hours later, they called my wife asking for us to please care for the dog until at least next week - possibly longer.

It was certainly an unexpected turn of events on Christmas Eve. The dog has the kindest disposition and seems so genuinely happy to be in a warm home with a caring family - especially by my teenage daughter.

The vet confirmed that he isn’t microchipped and they posted his information on a lost pets of Bartow county website.

Unless the original owner is identified, I expect he’ll be ours. For now - we named him GUNNER. GO DAWGS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!
