I keep reading that the guy who killed the united healthcare CEO is only being charged with second-degree murder. Is that a misprint? How in the world is that not premeditated first-degree murder?

If that isn't premeditated murder then nothing is. Only exception I can think of would be if he was the triggerman for another who actually planned it.

It is an initial charge. The DA can always add more on top when they collect more evidence. Happens this way a lot when they will start an initial lower level charge and add more on when they collect more evidence
Yeah I can’t see the DA not charging for first degree obviously premeditated. Even Bragg. I absolutely do think there should be a reciprocal charge against Bragg for his political persecution of a military veteran who dared risk his life for fellow innocents. And solely because he is white and the victim black. Only reason. It is just as sick as the shit that happened in reverse for years a long time ago.
I don't disagree. Bragg is a huge dick head.
But the initial 2nd degree charge is very normal to start out
