Are Dems mad because waste and fraud is being exposed or just mad because Musk is leading the charge?

Data from USAspending.gov shows of the $8 million spent on payments for Politico products in 2024, the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Interior and Department of Energy each paid over $1 million in 2024. USAID paid $24,000 for Politico subscriptions in the 2024 fiscal year, up from $20,000 the previous year.
But why? And does that make it any better? You and I should not be paying for the federal government to fund biased media. Any media for that matter. It is a total recipe for pay for play coverage. Even if not explicit. You scratch my back….

Put another way, what if it was discovered that Trump directed an agency, any agency….to cut a $50M check to Fox News?

The only real issue I have with it is that he has a $3 billion contract with the very entity he’s auditing (for lack of a better word).

Secured well before getting handed this role, and due specifically to the fact that his space company is light years ahead of anyone else’s. But to your point if part of the job is to audit that contract, he should recuse himself.

To some extent we could all be accused of being conflicted if we are auditing the federal government, because fed taxes are our largest expense.

Furthermore the dude’s wealth is all about Tesla, and Trump is the absolute worst thing for Tesla.

You mean an individual used their own money to buy a subscription? Is your argument that this is the same as the federal government using your money to buy subscriptions to a known left leaning media outlet in the tens of millions of dollars?
You actually think that Boebert used her own money for that subscription, rather than the operating funds allocated to her office by Congress (i.e., taxpayer money) … ?

If she used taxpayer money I don’t think that’s right. If she used campaign money or her own money I think it is fine.

Where was the moaning and wailing and gnashing of teeth by liberals when President Obama appointed about 20 unelected “czars” to direct government policy? That was just fine back then. “Elections have consequences,” remember?
So, pretty please, with sugar on top, those of you willing to be honest with yourselves about this, who had no problem with all of Obama’s “czars”, shut your hypocritical pie holes, enjoy not paying for transgender comic books abroad on your children’s nickel, and maybe work on not being so damned brainwashed.

No security for 29 year old's getting access to highly secure and private data.

And on a related subject:
Trump saying the U S will "take over Gaza and own it" and move out the Palestinians there to build “the Riviera of the Middle East,” was the most unrealistic, bizarre and dumb statement ever made by a U S President.
Trump is a man who says he doesn’t want new military commitments, and now he wants to move two million people who don’t want to go to places that don’t want them.
Is this because right-wing officials in Israel, evangelical Christians in the U S and Trump appointees support Israel taking more territory?
The most bizarre and dumb statement ever made by a president huh? I recall a president saying his son, a literal crack head, who slept with his dead brothers wife, and who had a kid with a stripper was the smartest person he knew... BUT, this particular president was unable to complete simple sentences, walk up stairs or ride a bike, but yea that was pretty dumb and bizarre what Trump said.

How is this comparable to the scenario you describe ?

According to the General Services Administration, the government spends capital on subscriptions and advertising in media outlets. Government agency heads have the ability to determine which outlets their agency will choose to invest in.

38 House Republicans spent over $300,000 and Republican-led committees wrote off half a million in revenue on Politico subscriptions from January to September in 2024, the Washington Post reported.

Additionally, the House Committee on Agriculture spent $84,000, the House Committee on Energy spent $58,000, and the Office of the Speaker of the House totaled over $9,000 in Politico subscriptions, according to government records.

So ... the $24,000 that USAID spend on Politico is proof that the agency is corrupted and engaged in fraud, but the over $1m spent by Republicans during the same time frame is ... what ?

I don’t think taxpayers should be paying for any media whatsoever. To any media outlets. And if there is a big discrepancy in the total
Dollars granted to specific media outlets under the direction of a specific administration or agency, that is shady af.

I think it was reported that Politico has received $40M total across all government agencies. In taxpayer dough. That is bullshit. Not matter who directed the payments.

The amounts and reasons for the amounts involved beg the question about kickbacks. That would be fraud.

And in the case of the biased reporting we've seen from NYT, Reuters, BBC, Politico, etc......the kickback in question could certainly be just that - biased reporting. With 97% of the agency in charge of allocating the funds supportive of democrats, that is a super legit question. I don't know if that would meet the technical definition of fraud......but it sure seems criminal to use taxpayer dollars to bend supposedly unbiased media towards one political party.

I would like to see the amounts paid by this agency to these areas over the years. Did they spike in certain years under certain administrations? Or has it been fairly flat? If the latter, it may allay some concerns about fraud or using taxpayer dough for political purposes.....but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be cut.
All of that information is available. It always has been.

But just now being put out for all to see. And the left is inexplicably losing their minds. Why? This is our phucking money. If we can save some that should be universally applauded unless the savings in question would create issues for Americans.

It was $8m last year. Wasteful spending, I agree. But bear in mind, Politico is not just a news website. They have research tools that apparently have some value to government officials on both sides of the aisle.

I think the left, and centrists, are upset about the methods being used to attack the problem.

Boebert paid for the Politico Pro subscription out of taxpayer funds.

From house.gov this line item:

08 AP X0139835 POLITICO LLC ................................................................................................. 01/27/24 01/26/25 PUBLICATIONS/REFERENCE MAT’L .............................................................................................. 7,150.00

Well they can’t actually say they are against eliminating wasteful spending. So their default is to go after the character of the person and/ or spin lies about personal info being stolen (whatever that means) or lie about the savings extending to stuff people actually do care about.

Also - why the outrage on the buyout offers? This is how private business works. And it is a choice. Companies do this all the time to try and cut costs.

The Weiner laptop stuff is hard to believe, esp since they threw a Qanon reference in there. It's my belief HRC is corrupt as hell but God help us if the accusations in that video are anywhere close to true.

The President uses hyperbole and insults all the time. His Press Secretary is a shill.

When DOGE unroots actual evidence of fraud, we will know it. I suspect it will happen and that’s good. But calling spending authorized by Congress “fraud” just because we don’t like it or find it wasteful is wrong.
Believing that fraud is not and has not gone on is a joke and has gone on with probably every administration in our history. I just really can’t imagine any logical reason why we wouldn’t want to expose and fix it.

TDS causes lack of comprehension, IMO. I laugh at anyone at this point who takes the wild things Trumpsays seriously, as if you and all the others complaining about the Gaza comment were asleep from 2017 to 2020.

29 year olds? Like the ones working at the IRS, SSA and God knows what other departments with access and with lower credentialing. I guess 29 is old enough to be sent off to die for the country, but not try to root out government corruption. Ok.

Including Lauren Boebert, who paid them $7,150 for a yearlong subscription beginning in January 2024.
Who said this corruption had one side? Orange man bad is on the loose digging this up because the Repub's have sucked for decades as well.

Is that fact she isn't lying for the White House bother you? I mean after the last 2 we had, this is rich.

About that 23 year old kid.
The two smartest people I have ever met are Harmon Caldwell the nn in Law school and a 23 year old programmer that worked at Loyd Noland hospital in Birmingham. (Others from medical field, Cal Tech, Harvard, and NASA not withstanding…)

Anyways, the 23 year old had grown up in a dysfunctional family in the south and joined the Air Force at 18.

He learned and spoke Russian and Pashto fluently in under a year and was flying around in high altitude planes doing audio surveillance from hidden microphone recordings transmitted secure encoded from data gathering centers on the ground from stored and forwarded conversation wiretaps.
In under a year at Loyd Noland he was up to speed coding and analyst wise and after a couple more years he snagged another gig in IT at 3-4x the pay.

There are some really brilliant folks in this world, some of them are 23, and I’m sure Elon and his ventures attract them.

It is sad how they think age is an attack on the credibility, just lashing out in frustration is more like it.

I guess the 20 somethings that worked on the Manhattan Project weren't old enough. SMH.

Being a shill is her job. It was not intended as an insult.

DJT lies as often as he tells the truth, which makes her a liar by proxy. To suggest otherwise ... wow.

Would it make them any happier if some Washington bureaucrat was appointed to lead DOGE? Or, are they more afraid of what all will be exposed?
I am just mad because people like you are spreading lies and other misinformation. There isn't anything being uncovered that is worse than the lies espoused by Trump and people like you. You don't state facts. Just made up BS.

You don't have the knowledge to define wasteful spending. You define it as any spending that you don't like are disagree with.

If you want to go tit for tat, then do 2021-24. Talk about bald face lying. From every Wh official on every issue.

Lying to boast is altogether different than lying by omission or to cover up the fact the WH occupant is non comtose mentis.

Orange man bragging and boasting is his persona.

Levitt said “there was about to be $50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza.”

That was a lie. Told on behalf of the White House.
Wahhhh, a lie out of a spokeswoman. Did you listen to the lies for Biden?

Again, bragging about the size of a fish or your manhood is different that flat out lying about what you are doing. As far as I can tell, orange man is doing exactly what he said he would so that is a major distinction.
