Lot of familiar names here.... Good grief... Of the 15 players who made the 1st team, we'll see a whopping 7 at some point this season... 5 more opponents make up the 2nd team, and 5 MORE on the 3rd team.... You'll find Stephen Wrenn and Robert Tyler both on the 3rd team, as well.
Vanderbilt and Florida each five players total on the three All American teams. And we have to face both of those teams, on the road, in consecutive weekends. For good measure, Texas A&M (which has really been on my mind the last few days as I purchased my plane tickets for that trip this weekend) also puts two players on the teams.
The crazy thing about Vanderbilt and Florida is the talent both of those squads added with their respective freshman classes. I've said it before, but it's nothing short of remarkable that Vanderbilt could lose the #1 overall pick, their entire weekend rotation, and two other middle of the order hitters, and STILL come into a season with a serious talent advantage over almost everyone else in college baseball. It's feels similar to Southern Cal football a decade ago under Pete Carroll... All they do is reload. Though in Vanderbilt's case it's a lot more impressive given their academic standards and necessity to recruit nationally. Florida too. The Gators actually look better on paper this year than they did last, as wild as that sounds. We are seeing some bona fide power houses being built and I think that the best is yet to come for both of those programs.... At least we'll get them in Athens in 2017....
