Attending the Masters at the Augusta National is a great experience. Buck offers some suggestions and tips from his personal experience to make your visit more enjoyable and memorable.

Buck believes in his words, “clothes make the man”. It’s important at the Masters to be appropriately dressed to not appear to be a “BoHunk” on the legendary grounds. While you cannot go wrong with a green shirt(collared please) paired with classic black Russell stretch coaches pants, Buck explains that he prefers sporting his vintage UGA lettermans’ jacket. Buck often dons a ChiChi Rodriguez style straw fedora. Bucks wears the hat cocked slightly askew. Buck elucidates that this shows you take golf and tradition seriously, but are still down for some fun should the opportunity present itself.

Buck notes that some patrons wear golf shoes on the course but he prefers Pony cleats for better traction and lateral movement in the concession line.

Remember that the other patrons are often big spenders so to “get in the swing of things” carry in your pants a wad of cash with a rubber band holding the bills together. (Nugget: bigger bills on outside (10’s and 5’s)). Bling is always appropriate with this elite crowd so make sure to wear any championship or bowl rings. You don’t want to appear to be some out of place rube.

One of the most fun Masters traditions is the autographs. Buck suggests the convenience of bringing your own sharpie to facilitate the process. Although asking for autographs during tournament play may be frowned upon, Buck will give autographs anyway hence his own sharpie.

Sometimes the crowds get thick with patrons around particular greens making it hard to see the action. Buck suggests carrying a beer cup in both hands from the concession stands and making your way politely to the front looking back and forth as if lost. People assume you are bringing a second beer to a date or a buddy. When you get to the perfect viewing spot next to the green shrug your shoulders and drink both beers.

Crowd etiquette is typically reserved at Augusta, so usually Buck does not recommend loud cheering during play. Buck instead prefers offering a reserved “Go ‘Dawgs” to which he will return with a nod and mouthing it.

A big part of the Augusta National experience is bringing home what Buck likes to call “Masters’ swag”. To Buck, Masters cups are the perfect reusable souvenir as it lets people at your tailgate know you went to the Masters without having to “spell it out for them”.

If you cannot enjoy as sandwich at the National this year Buck went off on a tangent about how Dantanna’s has 15 big screen TV’s so you can enjoy the tournament there with a great selection of appetizer deals.

Further Buck sayeth naught.
