Collins is out for the rest of the season
Gonzo’s status is still unknown but he’s at least going to miss the Mizzou series, maybe more.
Will David has filled in admirably, but after him who do we have? If he gets hurt we are in serious trouble. Madliak transferred at the end of last season and we don’t have any other catchers on the roster that I’ve seen. We didn’t even sign a catcher in the 2022 class, which is roster malpractice. The odds of losing 2 catchers in a season is certainly small but it just goes to show how poor recruiting can really come back to bite you. It’s going to be even more tenuous next year as Will David will be gone. Stricklin’s son is committed in the 2023 class but if Stricklin is fired I doubt he signs. Gotta hit the portal again.
Is there someone I am missing other than LaPlante (who was named backup catcher)?
