It's good to get back on the road.... sometimes it can be difficult compressing an already busy week even farther, but still, it's a good feeling.
Had a late lunch at JoMax BBQ today in Metter. It was solid... I was a little disappointed in the ribs, but what can you do? I ate there in 2013 and we won later that night. I ate at Papa Buck's across the street in 2015 and we got swept. That ended the internal debate over which place I would hit today.
It's about 80 degrees down here, which I guess isn't much different from Atlanta. I've gotten really cold down here in the other two trips, but I have a feeling that won't be an issue this weekend. I imagine it'll be a much better crowd than we saw in 2015. I wasn't in Macon on Tuesday night so I can't speak to the crowd there, but I wouldn't describe Mercer as a hostile atmosphere generally from my previous trips. This place can be, and certainly was in 2013 (and would have been in 2015 had the weather been nicer). That'll be another good test for our young team. Nothing we experience before 3/17 is going to match what we'll see at LSU, but I think it's good to get a road weekend under our belts before we head out there.
I was thinking earlier that if you were neutral, you'd really like Georgia Southern's chances tonight given all of Evan Challenger's experience and with them playing at home. I'm really interested to see how we respond.... The chance is out there to change some of the narrative tonight and ease off of some of the negativity (I acknowledge my own contributions there). It's late April weather, but it's still February on the calendar. LOT of baseball left this season. I'm really excited to get this thing underway and see what it looks like this evening.
