I’m coaching my son’s 12u football team this year. Couple of notes…
The thing I enjoy the most is trying to coach the way Kirby would, meaning, I like to preach physicality, toughness and mental toughness, relentlessness, and intensity. I really enjoy Oklahoma drills and teaching proper tackling, wrap ups and take downs. I’m very vocal and I like to rile them up and I especially like to challenge them. For example “you’re a big boy but you’re playing weak. Utilize your size and strength. I need you to PROVE to me that you’re the strongest man on the team”. It may sound harsh but I know the players know that I’m pushing them to be their best.
Any helpful tips to help me out and to keep things interesting and fun, yet a constant challenge, for these kids? Thanks
- My son has never played
- I’ve never coached football
- I haven’t played since 9th grade
- None of the coaches have coached FB before
