-I don't know where that came from, really. 13 runs, 19 hits? That was a season high in runs for us (and hits too, I guess) and came at a time when we hadn't done a whole lot offensively. I mean, we'd only managed to score 7 runs in our last 5 games.... Stricklin was right, the strike out and strike-'em-out-throw-'em-out DP there in the 3rd really seemed to give us some life. Stringing hits together has been a problem this year, but it wasn't yesterday in the 3rd inning.... then all of a sudden you have a huge lead and everyone can relax and play baseball. Very enjoyable.
-I was proud of Conner Jones too after that big inning.... He sat there for a long time while we were doing all that damage, then comes and goes 1-2-3 and we're right back in the dugout. You see some pitchers, when they get staked to a huge lead like that, they lose their focus or intensity a little bit or they start grooving it right over the plate hoping to get some quick outs. Conner didn't seem to do that.... As great as it was to be up 8-0, South Carolina still had 18 outs to work with... The game really wasn't over at that point. Conner did a super job of making sure they never get any momentum or never had anything to believe in. Very mature performance for Jones.
-Stephen Wrenn, LJ Talley, and Michael Curry all had tough nights on Friday night. Great to see those guys bounce back. I like that with Curry. Earlier in the year he had that 5 strike out game against Western Kentucky, but he came right back and carded a couple of hits the next time out (I think it was in Charlotte, but I forget).... You respect that in general, but especially from a young guy.
-Friday night we K'd 10 times and didn't draw any walks. Last night we cut the K number down to 7 and drew 5 walks. It makes a world of difference, having base runners, making the other guy throw more pitches, etc.
-Let's hit a non-solo HR today.
-We've got a chance to beat South Carolina for the third year in a row. It won't be easy today, but I think we've proven that we aren't overmatched by them.... I think Bo Tucker has a big outing in him. You can bet that South Carolina is going to play well. Teams like that don't typically string poor performances together. Still, I expect to win this afternoon. If we're going to make a push and hang around in the standings, today is huge.
