Can't make the game as a Foundation set up for our daughter in 2011, Andee's Army (https://www.andeesarmy.org), is holding their annual Gala fund raiser that evening. Yes they choose the wrong date. Yes it was a difficult decision. No I had nothing to do with the date they choose or day-to-day operations of the Foundation for that matter.

The good news is that the organizations assists 50-60 families a year to help bridge the gap between what your doctor recommends and what insurance will pay!

Therefore, I have placed my tickets on Stubhub and hope to sell for top dollar. I plan to use the proceeds to donate back to Andee's Army.

I challenge all Dawgs to attend the game for me and donate to Andee's Army!!

If we had single payer none of us could afford to go to the Notre Dame game in the first place
If we had single payer she'd get treatment in a year. Hopefully she could make it that long. There's a reason people with money come here from Canada to get medical treatment.
Ohhhh I like demagoguery as opposed to facts too. Amazing how the rest of the world can make it work but not us.

I guess it’s way better for people to go bankrupt when they get sick since you guys prefer that. I mean it’s what Jesus would do

If we had single payer, OP could cheer on the Dawgs. Just sayin.

So who is the single payer? The government? I didn't realize the government made its own money and could just pay for everyone's treatment itself. Seems like they would have to get that money from somewhere, or someone. Kind of like "free college" and other grand socialist schemes.

It’s really simple guy. That money you and your employer sent to aetna? It goes to the government. Except now you don’t have to have fundraisers to pay for little Susie’s chemo because it’s paid for. It’s really not hard at all. The rest of the world does it.

You know just like you do with the military. Or fire. Or police. Same concept.

And then OP can come to the game.

This has sorta gone into non vent territory and probably will be locked. I'll give my two cents as someone who has lived in a single payer system for a decade and a half.
It's dirt cheap. If I have a cold, virus, etc. I see a doctor, get my meds for less than ten bucks.
I had hernia surgery in the US in 1997. It was outpatient but I was nauseated afterwards and lets just say nausea and hernia surgery are not a good mix. Doctor gave me pain meds to knock me out but wanted to keep me overnight until the nausea wore off. Ended up costing me 2.5 grand after the insurance covered.
I had the exact same surgery in Korea ten years later. I stayed in the hospital 3 nights (mandatory) and paid less than 300 dollars. I have not heard of any long waits here. My friend had to have pretty serious surgery a few months back and waited two weeks.
All the surgery stuff was exactly the same. I don't think the care from the nursing staff is the same. As a young man, I was more than happy to get less attention from the nurses for the reduced price. Older people might need more attention like they get from US hospitals. Nurses are paid very little compared to the US. Doctors still earn a very good living.

No matter where you stand on health insurance, I would hope you would see the need for some change. My friend is in his early 40's and had to be airlifted to Vanderbilt after suffering a mini stroke. His insurance would only cover up to 7000 for transportation to the hospital whether via ambulance or helicopter. The bill is for 48,000 dollars for the airlift alone. He's currently negotiating and basically has been told he can pay 20 grand now or pay the full price in installments with interest. 20 grand is more than a quarter of what he makes a year. That's ridiculous.

I simply do not believe that the government would run be able to run "healthcare for all" as efficiently as you apparently think they can. Or maybe you think they're doing a fantastic job with the VA, and the Medicare & Medicaid programs now. As someone who works in healthcare, I can't say I agree. And I also can't imagine our current healthcare providers clamoring to become government employees. But this is probably a discussion for a different board, honestly. Nobody is changing anybody else's mind here.

So crazy that some posters don’t realize the government can fix all problems.

I think insurance companies are greedy and medical costs are way too out of control. Something needs to be done, but not single payer.
Well that’s at least a start. Because those things are 100% true

Some things don’t lend themselves to profit motives. Health care is one of those things.

One issue I have with government and private industry is I think cures for certain diseases and illnesses can be or have been found.

I think both are too worried about finances that the people are being overlooked

I oh see. The rest of the world is so much better taken care of and better. Give me a break. If so why do so many want to come here?

Lost in the discussion, OP you're a good man. As much as I love the Dawgs you are making the right choice. Blessings to you, your family and those involved with what is going on.
You are right. I just donated. I challenge everyone to do the same.

The last thing we need is our corrupt govt (that goes for all parties) to have more power over us. The VA medical system (controlled by the govt) is horrible. No thanks. I agree something needs to be done with the healthcare system (since Obummercare went in my coverage has decreased while my cost has increased). Im self employed and have to use that crap (controlled by our govt) and it sucks.....again, every year coverage decreases and my cost goes up. No thanks on more govt controll.
