University of Georgia police noticed UGA starting defensive back Javon Bullard’s 2000 Lexus sedan before 3 a.m. Sunday because the vehicle’s headlights were not on while traveling south on Thomas Street in Athens.

That ultimately led to the sophomore from Milledgeville being arrested and charged with seven misdemeanors including DUI under 21 years of age, according to a police incident report obtained Monday by the Athens Banner-Herald. Bullard told police he had “two shots.”

Police noticed Bullard’s phone flashlight on and being held to the right side of his head and attempted to find a safe location to pull him over.

Bullard, 20, turned onto River Road and police say he had driven into the oncoming lane of traffic. He crossed over the line again and nearly hit an oncoming vehicle, police said, before he was pulled over.

Bullard told police he did not have his driver’s license. He was asked to write down his name and date of birth. The police officer said he could distinguish “Ja” but not the rest of it. He asked him to say his name, but “Bullard’s speech was such that I could not understand him,” the report said.

Bullard’s vehicle — which he was alone in — smelled of alcohol and chewing gum, the report said. Bullard was asked to exit the vehicle and “appeared to lose his balance and stumble against the open door of his vehicle."

Bullard registered blood alcohol levels of 0.143 and 0.148 on a breath test, according to police.
