I never really thought about this until now but Mecole was pretty much the sole reason that teams have been unable to stack the box against us the last two years. His speed was such a threat that it kept them from selling out to stop the run.
I think this makes Robertson’s progression that much more important since he is the only guy we have that has the same big play ability as Mecole.
Obviously I’m not worried about our running game but I think Mecole made a much bigger difference than people thought, despite of his average receiving numbers. He was a real headache for DC’s trying to prepare for us.
