Ecuador
Ecuador is a popular destination for backpackers across Central America, but some areas aren't safe for visitors. El Angel Ecological Reserve (picture) is inside a 12-mile exclusion zone that the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has imposed as a result of guerrilla groups, drug traffickers and criminal gangs being active in the area. If you visit, it’s likely that your travel insurance will be invalid.

Ecuador is also situated in an area of intense seismic activity. Cotopaxi, one of South America’s most active volcanoes, is only 31 miles from capital Quito and its presence looms large. A significant eruption could happen at any time, making it a risky destination for visitors.

Kashmir, India
India has enchanted many a traveler over the years, but it's not all gorgeous architecture and spectacular palaces. The disputed region of Kashmir is bordered by the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south, by Pakistan to the west, and by Afghanistan to the northwest. Violent clashes between protesters and soldiers are common in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Bangladesh
Half of Bangladesh lies in a high-risk earthquake zone, so if you’re visiting make sure you’re prepared in case of a natural disaster. The country can also be affected by tsunamis, tropical cyclones and flooding and remote rural areas can be cut off from outside help.
