Elon on Joe Rogan today

He’s talking about finding out how big this government waste is. Our systems are purposely outdated.

Anyway , here you go , let the hate begin:
Remember when Obama proposed eliminating ATM's to artificially create more bank teller jobs? That's some Soviet-type thinking/ . Conversely, bringing the most successful businessman of all time, specifically in an area of technology and efficiency.... into the fold will end up being super accretive to the US taxpayer.

I always assumed there was some security inherent in govt computer systems being outdated. Sneakernet is far more secure than being hooked into "the cloud." All the talk about "air gapping" systems has to do with keeping them from being remotely hacked.

Very much the opposite, here. There is nothing close to "air gapping" as many government systems are interconnected. And as Musk described in the video, they communicate a lot, but very poorly. The Social Security system in particular is queried by thousands of federal, state and local government programs. The primary risk is in erroneous data shared with thousands of dependent systems.

The treasury uses a payment system that lacks the most basic security and data integrity protections. Huge payments are issued without a proper description or classification. My copy of Quickbooks is better than that.

I think some aspects of defense are very much isolated.
