It’s the reason Lenny Bruce and later George Carlin ultimately “got away” with saying those 7 (was it only seven, as in 7 deadly sins?) earth shaking 7 bad words (curse words).
It’s also the reason anyone can state his beliefs or just his thoughts in a public place or on a public forum. Private clubs may have rights to limit their membership and what those members say & do.
Not so in the town square.
It’s also the reason comedians can tell jokes. Jokes typically involve a hardship (minor or major) for someone within the story.
Has our collective psyche become that fragile? Can we never take a joke or even listen to one now? It’s complicated? Why? Says whom? “It’s complicated” is such a weasel’s cop out. Almost as much of a meek surrender as “It is what it is.”
Frail children, wishing, hoping & dreaming. Sleeping most times. Reality has to be drooling, while waiting to roar into our not knowing/not wanting to know, fragile little mindsets. Bless our clueless hearts & helpless brains.
