I thought about that too. They know he wont actually get the votes but they get him out of the way. That would be clever.
Speaker Johnson said he was surprised and asked him if he was sure. He mentioned not being present to vote in the house.
I wonder if Trump asked him to resign in order to prepare as AG knowing he might not get the votes.
I’m a conservative and hope this has been a covert operation.
Yall need the House to avoid the shenanigans of the last few years. With no more than a 5 vote margin, any division will squander the roughly 1 year window of legislative opportunity before the Senate starts slowing stuff down getting ready for midterms in 2026.

Sessions and Barr surely didn't do Trump any favors, so I can understand this pick from that standpoint. DC seems to be scared to death of Gaetz, dims and repubs alike. For that alone, I like it.
I get wanting people who will toe the party line, but Gaetz is a cancer. He is not well liked by most in his own party. I find it hard to believe that he has any real chance of getting confirmed.
Trump is not playing when he refers to recess appointments. He wants total loyalty and compliance at Defense, Justice and National Intelligence and he won’t get that from anyone who would survive the formal nominating process.
He’s going to do everything he can to get these unqualified bootlickers in office, and he doesn’t care about the political fallout.

He is going to waste political capital he could use on passing sweeping legislation that would actually build a legacy. As someone on the other side, it works for me, but I must say I’m baffled. He should definitely get loyalists and even use recess appointments to get the people he wants- but shouldnt he want people who can actually whip the agency into shape? Matt Gaetz is a joke. He couldn’t find his ass with both hands.

In that list, Pete is your only valid comparison. The others- whatever your ideological opposition, they had the requisite experience to be competent selections. Mayor Pete is a very good comp to Gaetz- limited practical experience and seemingly selected for his media experience and how he provokes the other side.
I would agree somewhat but performance wise on the cabinet Garland, Austin, Pete, Yellin, Blinkin and Mayorkas were complete failures. I had an open mind about several of them - Austin until Afganistan debacle and going AWOL in service, Yellin and the 2nd round of Covid $$ which contributed to hyperinflation. Garland, though qualified and who always said he was non-political always seemed political to me, the raiding of a former President' s home will never be forgotten.
regardless, i'm ok with all of Trump's picks thus for but Gaetz. I think all but him would get the thumbs up by Senate. Only way Gaetz gets in is thru the back door. He will be more political than Garland and want hide it. Media will scream and he want care.
