I know they had a 5-7 season but ECU won 20+ games over the past two seasons! And they're ECU, for goodness sakes! They beat VT and came within an ace of beating Florida this year.
Had Ruffin McNeill been a better gameday coach it would have been 30+ games. (His teams had real problems with penalties, turnovers, second half adjustments and clock management. Sound familiar? They also had a habit of starting out strong only to falter down the stretch.) McNeill is good but ECU feels that they can do better. They chose not to led the good be the enemy of the great. Sound familiar?
ECU has real potential in that level of competition. Sure, I know that they are a mid-major, but they play other mid-majors. The deal is that they are in a talent - rich area (NC, SC, GA) but are the only "football school" with a football tradition in their state. Duke, UNC, N.C. State and Wake Forest are basketball schools. WIth the right coach, they could be to that level of football what Boise, TCU and Utah were in the previous decade.
I guess you can say that ECU fired their coach for the same reason that UGA fired theirs. And the same people who are angry at ECU for firing McNeill are angry at UGA for firing Richt: because they don't think that either program will ever be any better than what they were. The folks angry at Richt's firing don't believe that UGA will ever be as good as Auburn (undefeated season, national title and 10 seconds away from another title in 10 years) let alone Alabama, Florida or LSU, so they are mad that UGA is even trying by firing Richt. Well, by the same token, ECU fans think that they can lose 1-2 games a year instead of 4-5. Can't say that I blame them.
I think auburn is something like 38-27 in the last 5 years...dawgs are 10 wins better than thatHad Ruffin McNeill been a better gameday coach it would have been 30+ games. So what, they have a recent NC and played for another.I think auburn is something like 38-27 in the last 5 years...dawgs are 10 wins better than that
I'm telling you; it's the everyone deserves a trophy crowd. They are every where. Those folks at UGA who believe that can ESAD. They ought to all turn in their red and black gear and go cheer for Tech. Complacency breeds mediocrity, and those folks are the scum of the earth.
and they cheated to get there....flat out BOUGHT Cam Newton from his father.....maybe that's what you want, but I dontSo what, they have a recent NC and played for another.
