The consensus has always been that QB is the most important position on the field and while you certainly can’t win with bad QB play, I do wonder if we have put too much importance on the position in CFB these days. Case in point, the QBs from the final 4 CFP teams this past season:
- Will Howard (Ohio State): 6th round
- Riley Leonard (Notre Dame): 6th round
- Quinn Ewers (Texas): 7th round
- Drew Allar (Penn State): Likely top 100 pick next year
And of course we won back to back National Championships with a former walk-on who got drafted in the 4th round.
The common traits among these guys though is experience and toughness with a very strong roster to complement them. That’s why anyone writing off our chances to win a championship with Gunner aren’t paying attention. Guys like him are exactly who wins in CFB and especially when they have a loaded roster around them like we do. I maintain best case scenario is go on a run with Gunner in both 2025 and 2026.
