Has the QB position in CFB become overvalued?

The consensus has always been that QB is the most important position on the field and while you certainly can’t win with bad QB play, I do wonder if we have put too much importance on the position in CFB these days. Case in point, the QBs from the final 4 CFP teams this past season:

- Will Howard (Ohio State): 6th round
- Riley Leonard (Notre Dame): 6th round
- Quinn Ewers (Texas): 7th round
- Drew Allar (Penn State): Likely top 100 pick next year

And of course we won back to back National Championships with a former walk-on who got drafted in the 4th round.

The common traits among these guys though is experience and toughness with a very strong roster to complement them. That’s why anyone writing off our chances to win a championship with Gunner aren’t paying attention. Guys like him are exactly who wins in CFB and especially when they have a loaded roster around them like we do. I maintain best case scenario is go on a run with Gunner in both 2025 and 2026.
