Matt Loeffler, the head ref, lives in Dallas and owns his own window company. While he went to TCU, he obviously does live and try to sell goods in Texas. Among the memorabilia on his wall is a Texas helmet, presumably because he reffed a big game involving them.
I am not saying his business influenced his call, but it could not have felt good to look up at the Jumbotron, see the replay, and realize he is going to have to take a ton of crap from Texas clients, who would now say that the penalty cost Texas the game.
By the way, his son, Brett, graduated from University of Texas.
Matt was just too close. There is an appearance of the potential to be influenced.
