Edit, I just read an interview of David Hirst. He clearly sees and is willing to speak truth that most in The West turn a blind eye to.
I expect since you recommended his book you're more enlightened and willing to see both sides as well.

I want the correct answer and I understand that the correct answer to the same question differs in time and circumstance. You seem like some one who would like the book. Remember, hirst was kicked out of multiple Arab countries for criticizing them and wrote a sentinel book that doesn't look too favorably on Israel particularly the Zionist movement. He's not in the pocket of interest groups. Interesting, smart, dense book. Took me a month.
