It's actually not funny if you study African history. I've been to over 80% of the 50-odd countries there. There have been periods in many countries when things seemed to be on a good track. They have never lasted, mainly due to corruption and poor planning. The boundaries are artificial, largely created by colonialists, and mix tribes who hate each other.

I do not follow it as closely as I used to. The 2018 Fragile States Index compiled by the US think tank Fund For Peace lists 35 African countries in its top 50. Fragile State is sort of the new PC term for "Failed State". The top two are South Sudan and Somalia.

It would be difficult to point to a single long-term success story among the African countries. A handful seem to have the wheels on the wagon, but it has never lasted in Africa. Rwanda, Burundi, and Botswana, maybe. Algeria, which is not sub-Saharan, maybe Mauritius, which is an island nation. It's a sad story.

I agree with your points on O. You are absolutely correct as far as he goes... However, look up the Latin definition of fetus. That is a human baby. It is that babies body that is paying the price for the abortion, not the woman. If you can agree with killing a baby at anytime then murder should be legal. A baby born alive cannot survive without someone feeding and taking care of it, so, in essence, none are viable until you get old enough to acquire food and protect ourselves from the elements. I agree with your points on O. You are absolutely correct as far as he goes... However, look up the Latin definition of fetus. That is a human baby. It is that babies body that is paying the price for the abortion, not the woman. If you can agree with killing a baby at anytime then murder should be legal. A baby born alive cannot survive without someone feeding and taking care of it, so, in essence, none are viable until you get old enough to acquire food and protect ourselves from the elements. According to the scientific data I have seen, a fetus born at about 23 weeks has around a 25% chance of survival with proper medical attention. At 24 to 25 weeks, the chances of survival go up to about 50%. So, If I were in charge of policy for a right to life group, I'd focus on somewhere between 22 and 25 weeks as a target of starting regulation. Honestly, there really is no comparison between killing a baby minutes after delivery and terminating an 8 week pregnancy, even though I find the practice repulsive.

I guess it boils down to wanting to have an absolutist position that virtually guarantees no regulation will ever be placed on killing babies up to the point of delivery and adopting a position that might resonate with people on a level other than religious and creating a coalition so large that limiting later term abortion could be realized.

As I mentioned, I would love it if abortions were eliminated but I'm not getting into a straw man argument between the difference in a baby in the womb that can't survive outside it's host under any circumstance and somebody starving a delivered baby.
