I know what you’re thinking: “Jack, you took your wife to Disgusta? Why didn’t you just buy her a new vacuum cleaner instead?”
Ok now, hear me out. The purpose of the trip, besides lots of hotel sex, was to go see Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass at the Miller Theater. The show was outstanding. Herb will be 90 years old at the end of March, and he’s still got it. His wife, former singer with Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66, also came out and sang a medley of that group’s hits. This tour is selling out fast, and it may be your last chance to see this jazz legend.
Anyways, we stayed at the Marriott down on the River, and the weather was terrible. I don’t know much about Augusta, and I kept looking out at the River and all these big houses with docks over on the South Carolina side. Curiosity got the better of me, and I told my wife we needed to go check them out.
So, we rode acrost the River and felt our way around until we got to the place that looked to be a golf and country club. We got to the houses on the River that I had been looking at, and they were a sight to behold.
These houses were big, expensive, spectacularly gaudy, new looking construction that were obviously designed in poor taste. We started noticing other similarities, like tinted or covered windows, big trucks and SUVs, and such. Then I realized we were in a gypsy neighborhood, otherwise known as Irish Travelers. I had heard about them but never seen such before. It was very interesting to say the least.
Well, that’s about all I’ve got. Downtown Augusta has a long ways to go, but it’s worth it if you find a show you’d like to see. I thought all of this might spur on some interesting comments. Carry on.
