I continue to be amazed at people who’s only qualification to take portal transfers are either coming from a big school, once been a five star(even though they haven’t produced), or amassed dominating statistics.

Stars are so infiltrated in our being during that, it is almost all we consider or that we think of when we evaluate football players. It’s kind of lazy thinking.

The truth is if a player checks all those boxes and in fact they are transferring at the very least it should raise your eyebrows.

Additionally, if it’s a justifiable reason, then reality is you certainly in a bidding war. If everyone thinks we’re just going to go out be the high bidder for anyone we want - well you’re probably not being realistic as no one can run a program or franchise that way.

The truth is finding players that want to advertise their talent on a bigger stage than the one they’re currently on or want to win and get paid and further developed are the guys we’re going to be focusing on.

Not just running out and adding about a bunch of Primadonna’s looking for a quick payday. Kirby is not going to kill his locker room with a bunch of Jermaine Burton types. Once bitten…

Before we go dismissing every single player transferring from a smaller college– a quick Google brings up some interesting information.

It should help us rethink figuring anybody that comes from a smaller school was just there for depth. The following QBs are all from small colleges. That’s a pretty healthy number.

Terry Bradshaw, Louisiana Tech
Daunte Culpepper, Central Florida
Jake Delhomme, Louisiana-Lafayette
Joe Flacco, Delaware
Jimmy Garapollo
Steve McNair, Alcorn State
Chad Pennington, Marshall
Ben Roethlisberger, Miami (Ohio)
Tony Romo, Eastern Illinois
Kurt Warner, Northern Iowa
Carson Wentz, North Dakota State
Doug Williams, Grambling State
RYAN FITZPATRICK, HARVARD
STEVE MCNAIR, ALCORN STATE
PHIL SIMMS, MOREHEAD STATE

That’s just the QB position. There’s all kinds of talent hidden and smaller schools. Let’s not be so quick to dismiss it.
