After Kirby's disrespectful comments on fullbacks and his flat out saying he won't give them a scholarship, I'd quit before I played for him if I was Welch, Christian Payne or another FB on the team.

Kirby should show them respect and make a scholarship obtainable for them.
Otherwise, why should they give him their time and effort ?

LOL, I thought that when we actually had someone on full scholarship to fair catch punts.

Did you play little league baseball? Did you give your coach your time and effort? Did they give you a scholarship?

So we hold out time and effort?

OK

Ok..so that post makes zero sense to me.
Conflating little league with the duel commitment of college and big time football is worse than a reach, it's another insult to FBs.

If a player is good enough to play on Saturdays for UGA, he deserves a scholarship or at least the ability to earn one.

Kirby flat out said he won't give a FB a scholarship. My advice to them is go where you're more appreciated.

He's a TE guy, which is what most of the NFL is now. He didn't say he wouldn't give a scholarship. He said that he prefers the walk-on who earns a scholarship to offering a scholarship to one out of high schoo. Either way it's not a big deal. Many of our best FBs were walk-ons.

That isn't the point.
This is the second time he's treated players like objects.
The first time was refusing to allow a player to transfer.
He isn't Mark Richt, I mean that in a negative sense.
His tendencies are to take, much like Saban.

He has insulted fullbacks and flat out told them he will not give them a scholarship.

If I was a FB I'd tell him to go f..himself, I wouldn't give him my effort.
He did not say he'd allow a FB to earn a scholarship by the way, just the opposite.

He did actually; "just not at this time." The man is the captain of the ship now. It's apparent that CFB play calling is evolving and The FB position is fading out. Hell... Pull a TE. They weigh the same, block the same, however TEs can get off a block faster are more athletic and can obviously catch better. Faster too. Look at Baylor's FB, a converted 400lb lineman. At least Kirby recognizes this.....

This is a non concern ...So all kickers and punters that are preferred walkons should never come to Ga either...
KS has raised the bar since the NC game ended and the changes in direction from sleep walker MR have been impressive and much needed.

It's a non issue

Dude go pull for Miami. I am perfectly fine with him not being Mark Richt. Besides, absolutely nothing he said is treating the players like objects. Every coach in the country places restrictions on transfers and saying he prefers tight ends isn't treating players like objects either. He simply stated what he prefers. You are too damn sensitive if you're getting riles up over meaningless things like this. I'm sick and tired of so-called UGA fans and the media putting everything he does and every quote he makes under a microscope. It's ridiculous. Get on board or get off.

Why don't call Mark and ask why he didn't have them on shcolly

Kirby said he will not grant scholarships to FBs. I don't see how that jibs with being open to their earning their scholly.

His words served no purpose, everybody knows the FB position is used less now. As long as there is a place for one or more on a roster they have value though. If they have enough value to keep and they see playing time, they deserve to be on scholarship.

Kirby is too cold in his actions sometimes. It is not ALL about winning.

It ain't pro football either. A scholarship is the very least these kids should get back for the billion dollar industry their sweat and talent forms the backbone of.

“It’s one of those situations where we try to get the best quality player who can play the most positions,” Smart said. “Sometimes a fullback is more limited. There’ll be fullbacks in our offense. There probably won’t be scholarship fullbacks in our offense right now."

We're in the SEC brother.. Winning is everything. That's why we dropped Richt and that's why we hired Coach Smart. Don't patronize the thread with this "winning isn't everything liberal bullshit." Here's your participation award for finishing dead last.

if you were a fullback and I were a Linebacker, you'd wake up on trainer's table wondering which Train hit you.

I think you're correct!!!!! In fact, Kirby should offer my 8th Grade QB a scholarship too!!! Just because he really loves football and UGA. He should not be denied the right to play football at UGA just because he isn't as big or as talented as Eason!!!! For heaven's sake, he's already offended that other 8th graders that play football are getting scholly's.

I honestly believe this is very insensitive by Coach Smart not to have offered him already!!! Good grief, why should Kirby's football philosophy get in the way of him offering underrated QB's?? I bet there are a few small O linemen out there who have been very offended by Pittman saying he likes big guys in the trenches. This is a travesty!! Why should a 5'11" 150 pound kid not get to play O line at UGA just because of his size?

We need to get this fixed before Smart ruins this whole program wanting certain types of players!!!

And, let me guess....you think they should all get a trophy?? My gosh, you are one brainwashed...

I don't know what Coach Smarts comment was but I applaud him for being honest and stating how that position will be handled in his program. If he feels that the FB position isn't important enough to give a scholly for I think that's fantastic. I'd rather see that scholly be given to some OL or DL anyway. I think he's right. You can find someone to play FB and not have to give a scholly to them.

This... give everyone a chance give everyone a participation trophy mentality is what got us in trouble under coach Richt.... not having enough players on schollys (because he refused to sign more players each year knowing that some would be gone for discliplinary measures), giving out schollys to players that didn't need/deserve them, keeping coaches on his staff that didn't know how to coach, etc.

Nothing is free in this world and this is bigtime college football. Not everyone deserves a scholarship. Keep it up Coach Smart!

How many scholarships did MR "award" every year to players who would never see the field? IMHO.......wasted ships. Willing to bet Saban rarely gives away schollies.

We are trying to build depth in areas (off and def lines) that are depleted. So right now you need all the scholarships you can get for those lineman. CMR did a terrible job on the OL and DL recruiting.

Looking at the landscape of HS football...there aren't a lot of genuine FB's out there anyway..many HS spread offense's don't employ the FB...and when they do need to line it up on the goal line..they have a jumbo package player that can lead the play...

It'll be the same in our offense obviously...otherwise he wouldn't have said the statement...In all the MR years, I never knew where most of the FB's came from or even if they were recruited outside of Chapas, Sutherland...it really is a none issue...and when a FB is needed in the offense were running...I'm sure one will be there...

Well if anything Saban has proven that HUGE OL and DL's plus DEPTH will put you in the position to win national championships. We have got to get to their level if we are going to compete.
