Hello, my Dawg brothers and sisters!
In early March I was diagnosed with a tumor in my throat/palate which turned out to be Squamous cell cancer.
The good news is that we caught it pretty early so it only spread to one lymph node. The better news is that it is the type of cancer that dislikes radiation at a higher level than we feel about the Gators and Yellowjackets. Prognosis with Chemo is 90-95% cure.
I started my first Radiation of 35 and Chemo of 7 this morning with no ill effects thus far (I just finished mowing the yard). Fingers crossed as the Oncologist has me on a low dose whose job is to excite the cancer cells to absorb the radiation at a higher rate. Side effects are expected to be minimal.
In the past I have always tried to provide positive feedback and prayers for each member of our Dawgnation that is going through a rough time.
Now it's my turn!
I write this long overview for a few reasons.
The first is purely selfish as more prayers are greater than less prayers.
The second is to provide some positive news to anyone who may encounter a similar situation and feels overwhelmed.
If you need me just reach out and I will provide any help I can.
The third is to beg each of you to do some research and have your kids and anyone you know who qualifies obtain the HPV vaccine.
There is new hidden epidemic of throat cancers for 50–60-year-old white males caused by the Human Papillo Virus.
Much like Hepatitis it takes decades to go haywire and begin the transition to cancer.
As you can surmise one of the causes can be sexually transmitted from many years back.
Man the 70's were wild right?
As I begin my journey to wellness I look forward to updating this family of canines when I cross the goal line.
