This entire episode is a debacle for everyone involved.
The debacle is Donnie’s removing Gov’t docs to begin with, particularly classified stuff, and not responding / lying about it. He then compounded his stupidity with unlawful claims and refusing to cooperate in the doc’s return. Colossally dumb! The DOJ / Donnie’s attorneys will still review all the unclassified docs. The arguments presented by Orange Guy’s lawyers were ridiculous. The main issue is in a criminal investigation there is NO reason, legal or otherwise, for a special master to begin with. There never ever has been if we’re all equal under the law and a case didn’t involve an attorney’s office. Not to mention Cannon’s ruling set a very dangerous prescedent if allowed to stand. Eileen Cannon was way out of bounds and out of her depth for even being involved in the first place. Her rulings were a joke. She should resign her judgeship or be impeached for complete incompetence and removed.

The process re the docs is essentially the same whether there's a Special Master or not as everyone will have the opty to make claims re the seized papers. What Lying Donnie's lawyers were attempting to do was use the SM mechanism / shaky judge as a whacky defense to prevent ANY public disclosure of the documents contents. THAT makes me very curious what else is in there that may be criminal or not in the best interest of The People! Meanwhile, it doesn't matter what the attorneys want. The DOJ is by law unbiased but are contained by the terms of the legal search warrant and legal process / approved processes. They are legally enabled to search through all the seized documents and determine if there are unrelated papers that should be returned. My response has zero to do with "qualifications." The Cannon rebuke finding was about "jurisdiction" which is something totally different. Secret or not those documents and all work product of any president, belong to the Executive Branch not an individual. By law, when leaving office former office holders are required to turn over to and are reviewed / protected by the National Archives. They are not private nor personnel UNLESS they relate to non-government communication / activities or client attorney privilege. You're correct that the American People have a right to access appropriate presidential papers and are allowed to do so once collated by the National Archives.
