Massive terrorist attacks in Paris.....over 100 killed.

Sad Day. Senseless. Not much to say. Just Sad.

There are really really evil dudes in this world and sometimes politically inconvenient decisions need to be made and heroes put at risk to keep the rest of us safe and to defend the greatest place in the history of this planet.
Amen

Or we could quit destabilizing so many ME countries creating terrorist states where all the crazies organize, and then come from.

9/11 was a direct result of lack of intervention in State. Had nothing to do with us "destabilizing" it. They hate us if we "destabilize". They hate us if we don't. They hate us and want to kill us, and they will if we don't kill them before their BS ideology spreads.

He does, and that destabilizing action was the fulfillment of a campaign promise. A freakin campaign promise for one guy to keep his presidency, and as a result, this crap has spread like a cancer to the point that some Americans are buying into their martyr BS on innocent people. But hey - congrats on your re-election!

I'm sure this will all be nuked as it is viewed as political. I don't see it that way. This is America. We need to defend it, and it is our place to prevent evil of the worst kind to spread across the planet. This isn't some question about capitalism versus socialism. It is pure and simple black and white good versus evil. The fact that this has become a political question at all is sad, and I hope this thread doesn't get nuked. Dawg sports site or not, this transcends the goal of staying on topic. Please Keep it up.

Libya, Syria, etc.
Syria? Really? All of these guys have hated the USA since the 1970's and nothing we've done or haven't done has or will change that. They don't hate us for what we do. They hate us for what we are, and in this era of technology and social media, we better get off our arses and kick theirs right now, or this "debate" will become something a lot more real and it will hit home.

After 9/11 this country had a moment of clarity and the right priorities, but then we quickly forgot what was important, and being politically correct became more important than anything else

Hated us way before the 1970's. Go back and look at the Ottoman Empire. Go back and look at the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. This is just another manifestation of an ongoing holy war against the west. Read about the 12th Imam, and washing the streets in blood to hasten his return. Read about the caliphate....this isn't as simple as 20th-21st century conflicts in the Middle East.

So you think Assad is more a threat to US national security than the moderate terrorists we arm to overthrow him? Should have learned our lesson with Saddam.

And how is that overthrow of Gadhafi working?

Our "friends' ought to be the evil tyrants who keep these crazies under their foot and suppressed.

Exactly my point. Don't arm rebels or count on dictators to get it done. Put the most incredible human beings on the earth on the ground to do what only they can do. Kill these evil people and do it in a very very public way. I promise it won't seem near as glamorous to all these people who are joining up with ISIS or lone wolfing when they see what kind of fate awaits them from the Navy Seals.

Folks were pretty suppressed before we started bringing everyone back in the interest of political victory. Regardless - it is what it is now, and there is only one country who is capable of stopping this fast and with precision. It isn't politically convenient, so it won't happen until it hits us at home or until we get another fella in charge.

Thought I'd stumbled on to the Chat.

Nothing to do with UGA though.

There will be many, many more attacks much like Paris, all over the world.
Evil will prevail while good men do nothing.

And 9/11 had nothing to do with sports but pretty sure ESPN didn't ignore it. We are all Americans and this stuff needs to be discussed. It isn't an issue of taxes or other BS. It is good vs evil.

Exactly. We armed them through Turkey via Libya. We took the arms that we provided during the Gadhafi operation and moved them to Syrian rebels(ISIS) through Turkey. Sad to say, this is far from over until we commit to eradicate them. You're right, when will we learn?

Libya, Syria, etc.

We didn't destabilize Syria. We failed to act, fostering destabilization. But our failure in Iraq, which we DID destabilize, led to lack of will (understandable) to touch Syria.

Religious fanaticism very different than artificial constructs of kingdoms and countries. The Japan analogy OP used doesn't work here. Religious wars going on for thousands of years. Even within a sect (Catholic and Protestant, Sunni and Shi'ite) there's slaughter over centuries. It's all very sad and is truly a clash of cultures that won't change in my lifetime or my grandkids lifetime (and I don't have any of those yet). But on the path it is on, it will come to major heads down the road if there isn't balance and growth. That may indeed be the end of days, or at best some uncomfortable choices where untold innocents will die to settle the clash.

Arming "moderate" terrorists who are trying to overthrow the sovereign government of Syria, is destabilizing in my book.

The problem is we, the American public, don't have the stomach to handle the problem. If the President would just tell some high ranking General to fix it, I guarantee the problem would be solved.

Arming "moderate" terrorists who are trying to overthrow the sovereign government of Syria, is destabilizing in my book.

Civil war had already started. Forces being armed on all sides. Doing nothing is also a destabilization choice. We had a tough decision. We mildly chose a side and rattled our sabers and then backed off. Given that, we should have done nothing.

Sovereign government is still only a decision point. The French had a decision to make when some colonists had an uprising. The French government itself is a result of overthrow of a sovereign government. Governments ebb and flow. When a popular uprising starts, it's easy to not get involved, but getting involved or not has consequences. I don't advocate war, but the uprising of the middle class in Iran was a lost opportunity that I wish had played out differently. Much of the populace is western leaning. Could have been a real positive force in the Middle East. Instead they are now a strong counter balance with backup support from Russia.

You might want to say something about the bush boys! They damn sure had culpability in this mess also.

Say what you will about Bush, and it is fair to say he shouldn't have invaded Iraq. However, that decision came from a place of protecting the country and was based on bad intelligence that even many liberals supported. Bush was not afraid to make an unpopular decision for the good of the country. Obama is driven solely by political gain and his legacy as the liberal Reagan.

Whether we should have been in Iraq or not is debatable, but the fact that we withdrew in a stupid way, and it was that withdrawal that created ISIS is not debatable. And that decision to withdraw was done in conflict of the opinion of military folks. Why? To fulfill campaign promises and advance the legacy.

No one wants to put our heroes in harms way, but sometimes we have no choice. ISIS is the most evil thing to spread in this world since Hitler, and one man's desire to fulfill a legacy of "correcting Bush's mistakes" has gotten a ton of innocent people killed.

This is good versus evil, and it is way past due for good to go and kick evil's ass. Seems like we are waiting for Russia and now France to do it for us. Total failure of leadership.

they're coming , FIGHT THEM HERE OR OVER THERE ?
A lot of damage has already been done. Had these guys been very publicly and violently whipped a year ago, I suspect millions of followers of these assholes abroad AND DOMESTIC would not have thought this movement was so sexy. But hey - at least one man can brag that he's the guy who ends wars.
