Massive terrorist attacks in Paris.....over 100 killed.

There are really really evil dudes in this world and sometimes politically inconvenient decisions need to be made and heroes put at risk to keep the rest of us safe and to defend the greatest place in the history of this planet.
Yes. Again and again and again. Time to sacrifice more youth and innocents on both sides. As someone else said, you can't have freedom for free, right?

A lot of damage has already been done. Had these guys been very publicly and violently whipped a year ago, I suspect millions of followers of these assholes abroad AND DOMESTIC would not have thought this movement was so sexy. But hey - at least one man can brag that he's the guy who ends wars.
You realize that there is no putting an end to this don't you? You act like it is a small group of people in one place. Killing some of "them" only creates another generation of "them." And when the next round of attacks happens over here, all hell will break lose.

By that logic we should do nothing, let them grow their following via social media, etc. make them believe there are zero repercussions if they choose that path.

I am all for avoiding putting our military at risk for political agendas or differences in policy, etc. However, putting them at risk to fight the spread of pure evil (by anyone's definition) will save a lot of innocent lives. If we don't, it will hit home in a tragic way. There are youth all over this Country on the verge of joining this crusade. In his age of social media, it is more dangerous than ever, and the longer we wait to prevent this spread, the more horrible and difficult things will become.

Is there ever a time you think engaging our military force is justified?

Thank you for your thoughtful response LCD. Was just talking with my wife about this very subject: when is it justified? WWII for example. Something had to be done, clearly. The loss of life was tremendous when you look back at the unofficial numbers of soldiers and civilians killed on both sides. Staggering.

I am a firm believer in cause and effect. The causes for attacks like these date back well before either of us were born. And I'm well aware there are going to be coordinated military strikes by "us" sooner then later. Sadly, there will be more counter-attacks against "us" by "them". So when does it end? Every time we seem to take out an important leader, 3 more rise up. Just look at the nature of "them". Started out as Saddam Hussein and Iraq. Then the Taliban. Then Al-Qaeda. Now ISIS(which didn't even exist 10 years ago).

So just how can we prevent the next generation of "them."? That is the real question. Maybe we aren't ready yet to yield a real solution right now, after all, the "dark ages"(Early middle ages) lasted a very long time before the seed of the renaissance was planted. We assume we are beyond such primitive comparisons, but seemingly, we are not.

Very true. This is a holy war. Western civilization needs to think of it that way too. If you don't know anything about Muslim jihadi history, pick up a history book. From the crusades to the 1700's to today, we have been a target of theirs. This is the newest manifestation of their war against us. Wait for the first suicide bomber inside the US...game changer.

Yes, but if we never go beyond the terms "Muslim", "Christian", Jihad", "Crusade", "Jew", etc..., we will always end up right back here: Strike-counter-strike. Attack-response (revenge). We might as well be blaming the Romans for expanding their empire, but they are long gone...

Declaring war on 1.4 billion Muslims wouldn't serve any purpose. What are we going to do to the 1400 million who are just going about life like the rest of us?

Identifying and targeting actual terrorist is the only rational course of action.

I am afraid that technology and social media has made this much more of an immediate threat, such that we don't have the luxury anymore of letting things play out thousands of miles away, and the fact is that while there are peaceful Muslims, the only organized groups beheading folks and with the intent to do as much harm as possible, are doing so under a Muslim methodology. Not Christian. Not Jews. We are going to have to risk offending some folks if we want to keep our kids safe.

You have to call it what it is. Are they not Muslim extremists? Once you identify the problem you begin to understand their motives. I think we are saying the same thing. I am not simply labeling them. Who they are provides as much insight as to why they do these things.

Who said anything about declaring war on all Muslims? The Islamists declared war on us. They've declared it over and over. Stop assuming that anyone that calls this what it is, Muslim extremists, has a prob or wants to go to war with all Muslims. It's Muslims that are doing this. And to be sure, look through the book of the "peaceful" religion Islam. The Quoran is filled with genocide, murder, bigotry, and hatred. No not every Muslim wants death to the western way of life, but there is a large group that does. And they will not stop until they have that.

So is the bible...

yeah ok , do you know of any christians running around cutting off heads and burning people alive now, not during the crusades ?
No. I don't. The context was re Quron being loaded with violence. So is the bible. Oh, it's the old testament. We have a new covenant. Turn the other cheek, right? Apparently not. I'm neither and don't believe either one is the sole source of spiritual truth.

The logic you use says that because of slavery we can't ever have the moral high ground? Have you seen the way Sharia law operates. That's current, not 2000 years ago. Even so called moderate Muslims support Sharia law...you know, the law that says homosexuals should be stoned to death. But Christians are just as bad bc they refuse to bake cakes I guess.

Christians can be sanctimonious and cast stones in other ways. Don't agree with Sharia law either. Don't agree with a lot of things the world does in 2015. Carry on...

When is the last time a Christian cast a stone to stone someone?
Last week a group of Muslims stoned a girl to death. Please think about how stupid you sound.

The only reason I'd ever turn the other cheek is if it gives me a better sight line to setup my shot.

That is tragic and I am sorry all of this is happening, but how we handle it is a matter of opinion. Good luck with your anger and fear. I'm sure you possess an arsenal to protect you and your loved ones. peace
