Well, my background is a Finance degree from UGA with my major emphasis being MacroEconomics. Got an MBA from UGA with my major emphasis being Cost Accounting.

Then a Law Degree from UGA but the Ayatollah of Iran, Jimmy Carter, a downed helicopter and a crashed economy sent me to IBM and a career in the IT market segment as an IT Analyst/programmer, database analyst, and corporate counsel.
Ended my career working a decade in a major banking institution in IT and doing a fair amount of compliance work.

The keys, imo, (so this might be worth what it is costing you) is that 1. the DOGE algorithms would have NOT been possible to devise and implement a few years ago; and 2. Donald Trump has had a bathe in the Jordan River moment or two and now has a different agenda than previously.

Bureaucrats were (UNTIL NOW) safe behind the wall of a database so large and loosely knitted that extraction was well nigh impossible or would take immense effort.
But,
The advent of AI (algorithms of linkages) cuts through that and logical connections do not have to be keyed, related, symmetrical, or physically linked in a blockchain.

The leveraging of AI is what makes this possible! Elon & his crew are the tip of the spear for this kind of forensic accounting.

My $.02 -> the ones squealing the loudest are the ones with the most to hide, the most to fear, and the most guilty.

Since the USAID was created by executive order it has been used as a laundromat for decades. It has been difficult to assail because of this birth giving it a the separation at birth of a nonlegislative existence and therefore exempt from legislative oversight, accountability, & rules.

But now, LEGALLY - the executive branch is the one engaged in the investigation, it is going to be hard for the Legislative or Judicial branches to assail Trump’s power position.

Then, when the chariot wheels to the right and comes after the legislature, Pubs enjoy a majority in both houses, and the Supreme Court still tilts right.

USAID is likely to just be a precursor.

There are a number of elements in this concoction, but the AI ability is the Fulcrum/Lever, Catalyst or Philosophers’ Stone as it were.

My .02: Seismic shifts likely, er strike that based on comments below which are very valid, hopefully imminent…

100% on the last sentence, "Bunchy". I have thought the same - "same as it ever was".

My $0.02 is that nothing much will really happen. This is a spectacle.

The crazy spending in Washington has been caused by both parties, liberals, conservatives, etc. for decades and any cuts would also have to be approved by that same body. It’s certainly possible (and I hope real spending cuts are enacted) but I feel it’s unlikely.

Congressmen/women cannot know that this could be a lifetime job. It is a civil service, not an enriching scheme.

Again, without congressional term limits, this is really much ado about nothing. Makes for great Twitter though.

Like you, I'll believe in the reforms when I see the reforms but at least we are getting to see how our money is being wasted. I'm hoping an informed voting base will hold the pols accountable and limit the terms of the pols that defend some of the things we are seeing.
