Because we need 1 more thread right?

Last night had all the makings of a snooze fest. 3rd straight offense with no real shot to be effective, 3rd straight game where offensively we just needed to get up a TD and its ball game. Bad weather all week, Bama next week, Bama looking like shit vs USF. Etc. Throw in BV who is tight with several on the team still as is JDJ who was an all American here and leader. An arrest the day before. Last night was always going to be weird. What I didn’t expect was how weird it would get.

Defensively, I wouldn’t put much stock into much negative last night. We are so good on that side of the ball. We haven’t even really gotten into the fun stuff yet either and have dominated on just players really. We are aggressive and blitz and send fun stuff. But we’ve been pretty vanilla behind it and next week starts the fun.

When we go 93, 52, 97(once back) + Mykell or Jalon, that’s a dominant group. McCleod flashed night, Naz is sturdy and solid, Chaz played more last night than he will once 13 is back. Our DL is ferocious. Jah Jarret, JJA, Gabe Harris, got a ton of run last night. The interior guys are set with the ones mentioned above + Jordan Hall when he returns. We are going to be damn salty and haven’t turned up the pass rush yet.

Raylen Wilson is a super star and will be an X factor next week on Milroe. He’s the playmaker out of the ILB’s. Smael and him together are unfair fast. CJ is solid, his head has him playing slower than the other 2 currently. Secondary is filthy.

Offensively we are going to be ok, and that’s not a popular opinion. Last night begins and ends with execution early that turned into boredom and lack of leadership until ETN took over. Losing Tate hurts from that perspective. Morris is probably a better overall player but he’s not as savvy and he’s not the leader of the squad like Tate is. That’s a big blow.

We have way more in the bag to run than what was shown last night. But it’s frustrating to watch us struggle with the easy stuff too. Bad throws galore. Rushed throws by Carson feet wise he didn’t have too. The perimeter blocking cost us 20+ points and netted us 100 threads on this board by proxy. It was horrendous. Yurosek hasn’t blocked a soul in 3 games. Lovett was bad out there blocking. That has to get cleaned up.

We don’t have the TE receivers currently. Luckie is solid and needs more run but moving forward you’ll see 6 man protections with the TE staying in pass pro to get ETN/Frazier on a LB 1v1. You’ll also see bell and Arian in the slot way more moving forward. They’re all 3 slot guys. Really need Humphries and young to come on. When they’re in the game playing wide bumping 1 of the others inside, we are more explosive that way with a real X threat. That’s not Bell. He will be a big time playmaker but manufacturing touches. He’s not super effective manufacturing them for himself as a wide receiver.

Overall, we are going to show up to Tuscaloosa next weekend ready to scorch earth and make statement. We will learn a lot about our leadership and QB next weekend. I still think we roll and you’ll see a whole new sense of purpose from the offense early and often.

Teams need these games, last night was never going to be an L but damn it didn’t have to be that close either. Practice is going to be HELL all week and the missing ingredient is player leadership.

Nobody, and I repeat NOBODY is scoring enough on this Defense for us to need to a 2022 OSU performance barring us pulling a 2021 SECG scheme trick. We just need to figure out how to hit 30 and we will be damn near impossible to beat.
