I haven't seen this mentioned, apologies if I missed it and am being germanic.

For those who don't know Will Leitch is, he lives in Athens and is a writer for New York Magazine and MLB.com. He was a leader in online sports discussion/goofing around as the founder of Deadspin. He's from Illinois originally, was based in NYC, but married a UGA grad and when they had kids moved to Athens to be closer to the grandparents. He's written two novels that are set in Athens and is one of the co-hosts of "Waitin' Since Last Saturday," a Georgia football podcast. It's purely a "fan" podcast and aside from that he doesn't cover UGA sports at all.

On the most recent episode (which was released right after the Judd firing) he mentioned that a national-level investigative sports journalist was "living" in Athens to do extensive investigative work on the football program. He said this person had done a lot of reporting on the Baylor mess (pattern of sexual assaults and cover-ups). He did not say the person's name.

Hard to know for sure what to make of it, but for major institutions generally and big time athletic departments especially, the key to successfully managing this level of scrutiny is to avoid it altogether. Once you are under the microscope, it's unlikely you are going to turn out to be so totally pure that you can avoid some things coming out that aren't great. But, the combination of the B2B, the terrible car crash, the other speeding and the AJC implosion have eliminated that possibility.

Kirby, the program and the AA are going to be under a lot of scrutiny, and some of it will be from people much more serious than Judd. We'll see what comes of it.
