A CFP rules change this year mean the clock will not stop on every first down until last two minutes of the second and fourth quarters. That will likely have the following impacts on UGA's offense even if we perform at same high level as last year:
  • Reduce number of plays -- probably two few drives per game.
  • Cut total scoring by 3 points per game or more.
  • Cut total passing yards per game.
  • Reduce first down efficiency
Some of these changes may help the UGA defense by reducing number of plays per game, but they may also make substitutions more difficult. Shortening the game may be good for the UGA fans as we may have less garbage time to sit through in the 4th quarter.

On the whole, I think these changes probably help a loaded UGA team more than they hurt (relative to our competition and style of play). But if you are expecting Bobo/Beck to score more and pass for more yards than Monken/Bennett, be prepared to be disappointed.
