So today was our chance to see what a game would look this season like without the clock stopping on first downs. In my past observations, I find that that usually saved 7-8 seconds every time there’s a first down. (This started last year but today was another chance to observe it)

It’s a small sample size but today there were drives of 7:53, 6:22, and 8:24. Then Tech got the ball with 6:33 left and never gave it back. Those 4 drives essentially equal half a game. I don’t have the exact number but I also think the game came in exactly at 3 hours or just under it.

It’ll be interesting to see how fast games go this year with the new clock rules. It also makes it easier to “death march” teams as Tech showed.
